Monastrell

Suitable for Vegans

We’re big fans of the Monastrell grape, as it so often delivers affordable, but rich and flavourful wines with a Mediterranean freshness. This pure Monastrell is from Spain's Yecla DO, an area known for its vibrant and generous reds. This approachable and fruity wine is from organically farmed vines grown on limestone soils at 750m altitude.

+What it tastes like
Packed with ripe and juicy fruit, with layers of jammy black cherries and a touch of liquorice. The smooth tannins make this a lovely, easy-drinking red.
+What it goes with
This wine is an all-rounder, and especially good with grilled meats, pork chops and tomato-based sauces.

MURCIA

Yecla is in the South East of Spain, just over an hour inland from Alicante on the Mediterranean coast. It has an ancient winegrowing tradition dating back to the times of the Phoenicians, and today is a region full of local festivals and fiestas.

Yecla is dominated by Monastrell vines (known as Mourvédre in France), which represent 85% or all grapes grown in the region. The arid landscape produces heady, full body wines with lots of dark fruits and spice with plenty of character. However, the best vineyards are located between 400 to 700 metres in height so they retain freshness.

Perhaps enjoy a Monastrell alongside a typical regional dish known as 'gazpachos yeclanos'...
