The English Vine Number 1 Bacchus 2022

Wine of England

Bacchus

Suitable for Vegans

When we first tried this Bacchus by the talented Neil Walker from The English Vine, the whole team thought it was knock-out. Bursting with ripe, zippy and generous green fruits from grapes grown in Essex. The fact it’s named No.1 says it all really.

+What it tastes like
An utterly thirst-quenching wine with bags of lime and elderflower cordial on the nose and palate. It’s light and easy-drinking at only 11% alcohol and shows just how the Bacchus grape can shine under English sun.
+What it goes with
A wine for anyplace, anytime... and especially the picnic basket, but we really enjoy this with fish and new potatoes, or seasonal asparagus.

ESSEX

Vines have been grown in England since the Romans for winemaking, and appear in The Doomsday book around southern England’s chalky and sandstone soils. Yet before the turn of this century, drinking English had become fairly obscure, it certainly wasn’t something exported to other nations.

Times have changed and currently the English wine industry has a lot to be proud about. It is seeing phenomenal growth and wine lovers can be genuinely excited about the quality on offer.

Best known are the traditional sparkling wines made with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Delicious? Yes, but there is so much more to English wine than fizz. Great whites from Bacchus, succulent reds from Pinot Noir and refreshing rosé are just some of the success stories worth seeking out. Lots of local wineries have cellar doors, cafés or walking trails too.
